Meet the Rad Dads of Every Man Jack

Meet the Rad Dads of Every Man Jack

by Kelley Dodge

What makes a Dad rad? Is it fearlessly carving trails on a mountain bike … or courageously laughing in the face of a loaded diaper?

For the Dads at Every Man Jack, it’s a little bit of both.

Recently we caught up with two of our favorite Dads – EMJ ambassador Chris Shierholtz and Brad Handel, EMJ’s Sr. Manager of Social Impact – to find out what makes them top of the Pops.

Chris Schierholtz: Ambassador of Radness

“Bringing a child into nature is the best thing in the world. You get to share something you're super passionate about and instill the power of the outdoors in them.”

Chris Schierholtz isn’t just building an outdoor lifestyle for his own family. He's helping some of the world’s most exciting brands embrace the power of nature, too.

With over 20 years of experience as a professional radness consultant, competitive bike racer, and multi-sport athlete, Chris helps companies like Every Man Jack, Lululemon, Allbirds, and Arc'teryx reconnect with the great outdoors.

For Chris, the mission extends far beyond just getting people outside. It’s about building an inclusive outdoor community and inspiring brands to focus on more meaningful goals than just profits.

Besides, his infant daughter Piper is counting on him.

“The world needs more brands that are focused on other things that aren’t just focused on making a ton of money. We need brands to be more participatory, getting people active outside which is my life goal, and trying to be really good with the environment.

I want Piper to have clean rivers and fresh air to breathe when she’s older.”

So what gets Chris excited about partnering with Every Man Jack? Let’s just say he’s a longtime fan.

“I started using EMJ products about 10 years ago and was always inspired by their natural ingredients and how they inspired people to get outside. I love being a part of their whole program because it just feels really authentic. There's nothing wrong with feeling and smelling good!”

Chris’s Advice to New Dads

“The advice I would give to new dads is to be very flexible, be open to change, and just kind of go for it. You’ll find joy in the little things that you never thought you would.”

Brad Handel: Director of Dadventures

"Everything is better outside – coffee, meetings, showers... you name it!"

As Senior Manager of Social Impact & Events at Every Man Jack, Brad Handel is the face of EMJ’s mission to do good.

Whether he’s organizing employee volunteer events with local nonprofits or leading the rigorous B Corp Certification process, Brad helps ensure we make the most positive impact possible.

"I love my job. Knowing that I'm playing a role in helping EMJ do better and better each year is about as rewarding as it gets. The team is dedicated to making the right choices, which aren't always the easy choices, but it usually leads to the best outcomes."

Brad has kids. Does that mean he can’t be rad? Au contraire to your derrière – he’s an avid mountain biker, and can often be seen skidding to a stop at the EMJ office door.

For Brad, hitting the trails isn't just a hobby. It's where he finds inspiration to create stronger, healthier communities, both on and off the bike.

"Having kids has been such a great lesson in slowing down and appreciating the small things. They're filled with wonder and it's so refreshing to get that perspective – my kid will stop us constantly on bike rides or hikes to look at every little thing and it's awesome to be able to experience the trail through his eyes and then try to take that perspective into my own life."

Brad’s Advice to New Dads

"I get all of my parental advice from the movie Frozen. 'Let it go' has become my mantra – it's basically another way to say “don't sweat the small stuff, focus on the big picture.” I'll be the first to admit it's not always easy to ignore the bowl of oatmeal that just got pushed off the table, but you gotta let it go. Shout out to Elsa!"
