Going the Distance with Ultrarunner Reid Burrows

With 8,000 feet of elevation gain over 50 miles – all under the shadows of 14,000-foot Rocky Mountain peaks – the Leadville Silver Rush Run packs a wallop. And Reid Burrows wouldn’t have it any other way.

The 29-year-old professional ultrarunner spends countless hours training physically, mentally, and emotionally just for these moments. For him, it’s all in the preparation.

"My race morning starts with meditation, a shower, coffee, and making sure I look my best. This includes a race kit that feels and looks good to me. For this race I wanted to bring a fun and happy vibe – which included a bucket hat with an Every Man Jack patch."

To Reid, confidence is a critical part of performance. But that confidence doesn’t just come from training. It comes from how you show up. The mindset. The gear. Even the scent.

"My gear is really important to me, but how I look (and smell) makes a big difference in my confidence. I always shower using Every Man Jack body wash and beard wash before my races because it helps me lock in. Fixing my facial with beard butter is an easy step to making me feel confident on the start line."

So how did he do in this year’s race?

"The day was a success. 50 miles on my local trails, surrounded by a supportive community and friends with a top 10 finish as a bonus. I finished my day the same way I started: with a shower, fixing my beard, and heading back to the finish line to cheer on my fellow competitors."
