MEET ALEX

Alex Hackel’s professional career began at 14 years old on the slopes of his home mountain of Sunday River, ME. It’s where he learned to throw effortless dub cork 10s – just one trick in his street-style arsenal that has made him a 2-time medalist at the X Games and a People’s Choice Award winner at Kings & Queens of Corbet’s.

For the past 10 years, Alex has spent much of his time carving up the Nordic and Swiss Alps. He is the co-founder of 1000 Skis, a ski design company that focuses on self-expression, sustainability, and high-performance quality. He is also a star and film producer with the Swedish ski collective The Bunch.

“My dad always told me, ‘Alex how do you eat an elephant?’ I said, ‘I don’t know Dad,’ and he would say, ‘one bite at a time.’

I love that quote because so many times you build up these huge things, but you eat an elephant the same way you eat a steak or anything else – one bite at a time.”

“A cause I am extremely passionate about is obviously climate change. As somebody who loves being in nature and who uses the outdoors every single day for skiing, a great cause is helping this planet and trying to make sure we’re able to have winters for as long as were alive and for our grandkids and their kids.”

“I love the Swedish phrase “Tru Gut” which translates to “believe god” and it’s when when you show up to a new spot to do a trick or a line and aren’t sure if you can do it but the vision is there. Sometimes that vision comes to life and I get it, and sometimes I don’t have the guts, but in the back of your head you’re like, ‘ah I know i can do that, I’m going for it.’”
